Hey gang!

There are some people who don't have consistent access to the blog and it would be nice for them to have a heads-up regarding the rehearsal schedules.

Can someone volunteer to post the rehearsal schedule on the high school bulletin board? The rehearsal schedule is in a previous post.

Please let me know!
Thanks! Jeri Lynn

Great class yesterday, guys!!
We're well on our way to a great production!

Tuesday's schedule:

Act 2, scene 2, lines 1-40 (Titania, all fairies, Oberon)
Act 2, scene 2, lines 41-89 (Lysander, Hermia, Robin)
Act 2, scene 2, lines 90-163 (Demetrius, Helena, Lysander, Hermia)
Review of Act 2, scene 2

Keep working on deciphering your text! And re-type verse lines into complete sentences or paragraphs (for longer speeches). For an example, see previous post.

Thanks!

Hey Guys!

Today was successful and will be improved upon, I promise.
Thanks for the suggestions, I really appreciate it. On Thursday we'll be implementing Anna suggestions and Emily's regarding the staging of the play.

Next class we'll begin with a quick theater game and then get right on our feet with the staging.

We'll start with Act 1, scene 2. (Quince, Snug, Bottom, Flute, Snout, Starveling)
Then review Act 1, scene 1 (Thea, Egea, Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius and add Helena)
Then review Act 2, scene 1 through line 194. (Robin, Fairy, Oberon, Titania)
Then move to Act 2, scene 1 after line 194 (Demetrius, Helena, Robin, Oberon)

If you are not staging a scene, I'll have plenty of books available to help you to decipher your text:

The Shakespeare Lexicon and Quotation Dictionary
The Onions Shakespeare Glossary
Who's Who in Shakespeare
Stories from Shakespeare

Please use these books to help you re-write the text in your own language. If you know what your character is saying, so will the other characters on the stage and the audience!

Also, if and when you have free time in your busy lives, you may re-write or re-type your lines in sentence and, for longer speeches, paragraph form. For example:

Demetrius:

You do impeach your modesty too much
To leave the city and commit yourself
Into the hands of one that loves you not,
To trust the opportunity of night
And the ill counsel of a desert place
With the rich worth of your virginity.

Re-typed:

You do impeach your modesty too much to leave the city and committ yourself into the hands of one that loves you not, to trust the opportunity of night and the ill counsel of a desert place with the rich worth of your virginity.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. post them here.
Thanks! Jeri Lynn

If he hasn't please let me know here at the blog and I'll post it here also.

Casting will happen after that, posted on Friday.

I'll post tomorrow (or late tonight, if I figure it out by then) on the blog what scenes we'll read.

If there is a specific part you want to read, make sure I know that and that you get a chance to read for that part.

Let everyone know (in case they're not hooked up to this blog, yet)

Hey!

Good class today! The read-through was fantastic! You guys sound really good - I can't wait till we're up on our feet!

We finished with Act II and will start reading again on Tuesday starting with Act III.

We won't be having auditions for parts. If there is a specific part that you want to read for, make sure to volunteer to read that part when we're assigning/changing parts during the read-through.

Great! Any questions, post 'em here! Thanks, guys!!

Hey!

If you read this - bring a three-ring binder with you to class on Thursday.

You will each get a copy of the script tomorrow and you will need a binder to put it in.

If you read this and think that your friends might not - can you let them know, also?

Spread the word - Everyone needs a binder!

Thanks!!

Hey gang!
I'm still waiting to hear from Mr. Bryan about the selection of Midsummer. His final approval will get us on our way!

So, I'm expecting to have scripts to everyone on Thursday.

There are a few people who've missed lately and I want to make sure that everyone is participating before parts are decided. If you see the following people in the next few days, remind them of class and ask them if they plan on being there on Thursday.... Jules, Alston, Rachel Attix.

Thanks for helping me out!!

Remember to have fun!!

Fantastic class today guys!! I feel very confident we can pick a play by the end of the day Tuesday. I'll talk to Mr B. to get his input and we can discuss his ideas on Tuesday.

In the meantime, if you do any practice scansions this weekend on the additional speeches or sonnets and have any questions, you can post them here. I'll be checking and answering any questions in a timely manner.

FYI...the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival is doing two shows in Raleigh, Romeo and Juliet and The Taming of the Shrew next weekend, Oct 12 - 15. You can order tickets on-line at http://www.ncshakes.org/

See you Tuesday!
Thanks! Jeri Lynn

Welcome to Woods Charter's Theatre Forum. So... what the heck is this?

Well, the only way we can really cement what we learn is by reflecting on it. This forum provides a place to basically "journal" about what you encounter each day in class or rehearsal, to write about discoveries and ask questions. It needn't be all positive either. Expressing trouble with a concept or dislike of an exercise is just as valuable.

The other use of the forum is so that we can communicate about what we're doing in Life Outside. Are you doing another show you'd like us to come see? Post it here. Is there a movie out that you think we should all watch? Post it here. It's an easy way to let everyone know what's going on, so read and post regularly.

And eat your vegetables.
